Born in Paris where he lives and works, he makes his first steps as a sculptor supervised by his father, before he entered the studio of the  sculptor François in 1980. In 1987, he was a prize-winner of the A. Neuman international prize awarded by the Museum of Jewish Art in Paris and also received the Grand Prix Rubens, awarded by the Belgian-Hispanic association and by the artistic review Apollo. He has participated in numerous collective exhibitions and one person exhibitions in several Parisian galleries. Jacky Kooken works with stone, marble and granite and privileges direct carving, which best expresses the sensibility and passion of the artist. In search of another way than that taken by Rodin, he turns to the tradition of stone carving and to the sculptors of our Romanesque churches. he looks for sobriety, he carves and simplifies the human body, to retain  only its soul. One travels with him inside these beings, one penetrates  these souls, for our pleasure
